Part 9: Collecting Monitoring Data
Monitoring Rangeland Attributes
There are several methods used to collect range monitoring data.
Six of these methods are described below. Each method is ideally
suited to assess a particular attribute and some methods can be
completed simultaneously.
Listed are the six methods discussed in this sub module along
with links to detailed descriptions of each.
Frequency method:
Used to measure plant frequency.
Dry-weight rank method:
Used primarily for evaluating species composition by weight
on your ranch.
Line intercept method:
Used to evaluate canopy cover.
Point intercept method:
Used to evaluate ground cover; can also be used to determine
species composition.
Density method:
Used primarily to assess density; can also be used to determine
species composition.
Comparative yield method:
Used to evaluate production.
